34 miles southwest of Bordeaux, Arcachon is a very popular seaside resort boasting over 4.2 miles (7 km) of splendid sandy beach. Open to the Atlantic and backed by the Landes pine forest, its bay offers stunning sceneries and tourist attractions including the Pilat Dune, Arguin Sandbar, the Bird Island with its Tchanqueés Huts, Cap Ferret, Gujan Mestras. Arcachon is also known for the the Victorian style architecture of its old villas.
